Plague House

Another graphic novel from Oni Press to help pass the commute, and great as always.

At the start of the story we join a group of ghost hunters exploring a haunted house. A priest (Jacob), a skeptic (Holland), and a real believer (Del), and no this is not the start of a bad joke.

This really explores some dark depths both of the supernatural and of humans, fully supported by a wonderfully rich palette of gore in the illustrations.

When the team are exploring the haunted house at the start, each of them has different experiences, but Del has a revelation about how to go about ‘healing’ the houses…

Lots of death and mutilation later he has another revelation and visitation, both of which seem rather inevitable when you look back at the start.

This is such a well-paced story with each spread opening up more information about each of the characters, motivations, and the depth of the horror that they are facing.

Storytelling and illustration have worked so well together in this piece, well balanced and a one-sit read.

I received this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
