Paper Girls: Volume 1

Paper Girls: Volume 1

I remember watching this on Prime when it came out and was really disappointed when it was cancelled after one season when everything was still up in the air and I’ve always meant to grab them to read.

Thankfully Humble Bundle did a recent bundle that includes all of the Paper Girl trades and I can get to read them now.

Loved this from the start, great atmosphere and art makes the story jump out the page.

We follow the most confusing and adventurous morning of four young paper delivery girls as the world goes wild around them, a morning where they have to do more than just navigate the usual bullies and trials of delivering the news.

Initially set in 1988 we meet time travelling teens speaking their own unintelligible language, oldies speaking in an understandable patois and riding what looks like pteranadon, everyone disappearing around them, Apple products way too early in this timeline.

Reading the story left me far less confused than watching the series, but there are still so many unanswered questions after Volume 1 and the ending was a perfect cliffhanger, so looking forward to Volume 2.

Adventurous, fun, weird, colourful, and so readable.
