Steve Niles, Matt Fraction. IDW, (480p) ISBN:9798887241050. Graphic Novel, read 02/07/25, eBook ★★★★★
It’s been a while since I read Volume 1 and since it’s nice and bright I thought it was time to bring back some darkness to the days.
This volume is a collection of shorter stories in the world outside of Barrow and looks into way that vampires and the world are interacting in the aftermath of 30 Days of Night.
As in the first volume the art work really uses darkness and shadow to set the tone of each story, it gives places for the imagination to linger and search for danger, and when that danger bursts out full of teeth and claws the reds come into their own.
Not a subtle story in them, full of blood and gore but showing some more of the background and motivations of different branches of the vampire world and also showing that there is more to them than just the beast we saw in Barrow.
Layers of secrecy, keeping the public in the dark, and finding that harder and harder as each story goes on, hunters finding themselves aided and thwarted, subtle twists on religion, conspiracies at the highest level, but always gore and feasting.
This was a nice sized collection with lots of extras at the end to add to the mythos of this worlds vampires, and some of the additional content gives more of an insight into some of the stories.
Another great graphic novel from this world, really enjoyed it from start to finish especially since I don’t really have a reading head on at the moment.
