Christopher Cantwell, Megan Levens. IDW (128p) ISBN: 9798887243924. Graphic Novel, read 16/04/26, ebook ★★★★☆
I’d been seeing this knocking about Bluesky for quite a while and was lucky enough to get an copy of the trade that’s coming out on the 12th May 2026.
Well worth all the hype, not a big fan of Star Trek, watched the original series and some of the films so I do understand a lot of the universe and the big constant of the Red Shirts being cannon fodder.
This takes that aspect of the Star Trek universe and runs with it.
A group of security officers are sent to a planet to see who’s been hacking into a relay and set a trap for them, each of the officers is given a bio at the start of the story and they all fall in their own particular idiom…
The continuing commentary of how the security officers are treated by command is wonderful, showing a voice that knows the reality of the Federation and how it uses people.
I also really enjoyed how much or how little the security officers bought into the culture of the Federation but still had their racial/societal culture on top of that.
Lots of twists and turns, Romulans, Klingons, big eff-off spidery creatures later this rip-roaring adventure keep you rapt right until the end and would love to see more comics like this.
I received this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
