Screamadelica (1992) Primal Scream
Part of 2026 is to listen to more music outside the albums and playlists I have on repeat as I travel on my commutes, one way to do this is to work through the various lists that are on the blog and I’ve chosen the Mercury Prize Winners list to work through first.
After listening to this for the first time in years I was surprised by how slow most of the tracks on it were, I have this memory of it being a complete banger in the clubs, that was unexpected but we have seen this before on a lot of punk and ska music we’ve listened to after a couple of decades.
I always forget how albums really should be listened to from start to finish, after years of ‘radios’ or playlists on streaming services it sometimes feels odd to listen to a whole album.
Very, very strong start with Movin’ On Up getting you right into the mood for dancing but not full on 80s whistle rave dancing.
Every track on the album is great and it really did deserve the Mercury Prize, I think my favourite tracks are still “Higher Than The Sun”, “Don’t Fight It, Feel It” and “Come Together” though this is being really picky to differentiate these tracks.
Was great to revisit this album which was one of the first CDs we bought.
